Samantha Kelen-Let’s Get Real


Welcome to the Great Women in Compliance Podcast, co-hosted by Lisa Fine and Mary Shirley.
Mary’s first guest of this season is Samantha Kelen appearing in “Let’s Get Real”.  The two GWIC have gotten to know each other through their volunteer work on the leadership team of Compliance Career Connection, another wonderful example of how when you choose to send the elevator back down, inevitably you will be enriched as well.  Sam’s episode has a focus on being genuine, authentic and quite simply, human in this week’s episode, not only in respect of being a Compliance professional, which is a fairly commonly accepted key to being successful in the field, but also as a leader in Compliance with responsibility setting tone and a role modeling example for a team.
Samantha and Mary discuss some of the limitations of the concept of bringing your whole self to work, how vulnerability needs to be tempered with a filter and maintaining some semblance of professionalism.  They also talk about how women oftentimes need to consider the repercussions about being direct or offering alternative opinions as coming across negatively, fairly or not.
