Tom and Jen discussed the need to ask questions to gain a better understanding of the person’s style and how they interact with their team, peers, board, and investors. They also discussed the importance of disclosure and anonymity when conducting such inquiries, as well as the need to conduct independent third-party vetting of an individual’s reputation before investing in them. Finally, they discussed the use of corporate intelligence to shape a client’s relationship with an executive and the need to assess the potential risks of hiring an executive before becoming emotionally, financially, and reputationally invested in the deal.

Lisa and Jen discuss what corporate and human source intelligence are, and the strategies she uses to obtain relevant information. She also explains the distinction between corporate intelligence and corporate espionage. They talk about the art of interviewing in her world, and how it is similar – and different – to internal investigations and what many of us do. Jen also provides some great tips and advice for talking to and connecting with people.
