Debunking Comedy & Compliance Concerns

Where does creativity fit into compliance? In more places than you think. Problem-solving, accountability, communication, and connection – they all take creativity. Join Tom Fox and Ronnie Feldman on Creativity and Compliance, part of the Compliance Podcast Network. In this episode, Tom and Ronnie look at the common objections to using comedy in compliance training and communications and debunk them all.

  • Well, we’re a conservative company
  • We don’t do humor here or we tried humor once and it didn’t work
  • Employees already get tons of communications, so we don’t have an appetite for more compliance communications.
  • We need to focus on our core training first
  • We’re global so humor doesn’t work

Rashada Timkee-Community Outreach and Compliance

Welcome to the Great Women in Compliance Podcast, co-hosted by Lisa Fine and Mary Shirley.

One of the best things about the Great Women in Compliance podcast is the community that we have built, and it is the theme of this week’s episode.  Lisa interviews Rashada Timkee, Compliance Risk Management Officer, VP, at Citibank, and has built her community with a service mindset.  Rashada has been involved in various outreach activities over several years, which pre-dates her compliance career, and that work has shaped her views and ways of working.

Rashada is a first-generation college graduate and continues to give back.  Rashada has used her background in the banking industry and retail to support underserved communities and has been a mentor and support to many people – and she has pivoted to new volunteer endeavors online during this pandemic.  She talks about how this outreach has also strengthened her work with her team and others.

They also discuss Rashada’s commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and her reflections on this and where we need to go as a compliance community.  We also ask Rashada what advice she would give to her daughter or younger self…and it is advice benefits anyone.

The Great Women in Compliance Podcast is on the Compliance Podcast Network with a selection of other Compliance related offerings to listen in to.  If you are enjoying this episode, please rate it on your preferred podcast player to help other likeminded Ethics and Compliance professionals find it.  You can also find the GWIC podcast on Corporate Compliance Insights where Lisa and Mary have a landing page with additional information about them and the story of the podcast.  Corporate Compliance Insights is a much appreciated sponsor and supporter of GWIC, including affiliate organization CCI Press publishing the related book; “Sending the Elevator Back Down: What We’ve Learned from Great Women in Compliance” (CCI Press, 2020).

As always, we are so grateful for all of your support and if you have any feedback or suggestions for our 2021 line up or would just like to reach out and say hello, we always welcome hearing from our listeners.

We welcome any feedback you may wish to send in to gwicpod@gmail.com.

Your Resume is Your Calling Card with Donna Wallingsford

In this episode of Career Can Do, Mary Ann Faremouth chats with Donna Wallingsford, a published writer, editor, and educator with over 20 years of experience. Donna helps job seekers refine their resumes.

Donna’s background in journalism contributed to her success and expertise in writing. Though she is versed in many forms of writing, she found her calling in doing resumes, which she turned into a lucrative business. Mary Ann comments that Donna’s is the creme de la creme of resume writers. The secret, Donna says, is her approach: she researches the industry to understand what employers are looking for, and interviews her clients to get to know them. She is passionate about presenting them in the best light.
Your GPA should not be put on your resume unless it’s 3.0 or above, Donna advises. “If you’ve been out of college for more than five years, the GPA isn’t really necessary… if they don’t request a transcript, your GPA is not going to be a deciding factor in the workforce. If you’re a recent graduate without much work experience, including your internships in your resume is a good idea,” she adds.
