Welcome to the Greetings and Felicitations, a podcast where I explore topics which might not seem to be directly related to compliance but clearly influence our profession. In this episode, I visit with business journalist and long-time energy issue reporter Loren Steffy about what the Russia invasion of Ukraine means for the world energy scene. Highlights include:
· Russia is the second largest oil exporter after Saudi Arabia.
· Russia provides 40% of the energy for the EU.
· 60% of Russian GDP comes from energy production and sale.
· What will be the response of US producers?
· What will this mean for shale production?
· Where does LNG fit into all this?
· Can the US upgrade its energy infrastructure?
· What about a US energy policy?

Richard Lummis and I are back to continue our series of exploring leadership through the study of US Presidents. This episode begins a series on Gilded Age Presidents, now largely forgotten. In this episode, we take up Grover Cleveland, the only non-consecutive US President. Some of the highlights include:
Educational and Professional-background of Grover Cleveland
New York Politician including his term as Mayor of Buffalo and Governor of NY
Election Campaigns, including Rum, Romanism and Rebellion
Presidency including Reform (1st term); the Tariff (1st term); Military Policy (1st term); Labor unrest and Pullman Strike (2nd term) and Foreign affairs (2nd term)
Leadership Issues including
(1) Why tone at the top matters? A Public Office is a Public Trust;
(2) How Cleveland helped to return power to the Executive Branch;
(3) When is the ‘vision thing’ needed? and
(4) Servant Leadership- Officeholders are the agents of the people, not their masters.
The Case of the Smart TV
Jonathan Armstrong and Tom Fox return for another episode of Life with GDPR. In this episode, dissect the case of the Smart TV and considers its implications for de minimis cases brought under GDPR. Some of the issues we consider include:
1. What were the underlying facts of the case?
2. Was the case filed in the correct court (High Court)? If not, why not?
3. What was the court’s ruling?
4. What is the viability of a de minimums claim going forward?
5. When dealing with data protection infringement compensation claims, look to cases from other jurisdictions.
6. No matter how seemingly trivial, organizations should be prepared for them and manage them with care.

George Bernard Shaw said, “life is not about understanding yourself; life is creating yourself,” and that is the subject of my jam session with Jerome “Romey” Wade.
Suppose you are like most people; at inflection points in your life, you want to understand yourself better or understand “why” life might deal you the proverbial shit sandwich. What if life has nothing to do with understanding but instead getting crystal clear and specific about the life and things you want to create based on #WhatInspiresMe?
How can you re-invent your life, find yourself again, and create a better life from your higher self? Well, that is exactly what we tackle in this episode. So whatever you do, listen to this entire episode and then share with your friends and family… since this is a topic that impacts everyone.

Following on from our Part 1 from last week, we invite Debbie Sabatini Hennelly back for the second part of series where we discuss how a book became a deliverable that helped Debbie work through burnout which ties in nicely with the burnout discussion commenced in the first episode. As someone who was previously an environmental lawyer, Debbie is one of the few people who is legitimately an ESG expert and shares with us some thoughts about how companies ought to approach ESG, as well as giving her view on whether or not Compliance should own ESG. We also ask for Debbie’s advice about being a great leader and how to manage upwards when you have a difficult boss.
