The Many Marketing Uses of Podcasts with Jay Rosen

Jay Rosen is the Vice President of Business Development at Affiliated Monitors, Inc., a company that helps businesses face certain types of ethics and compliance challenges. Tom Fox and Jay talk about the power of podcasting as a new component of marketing for Affiliated Monitors in this week’s show.

Getting The Message Out

Tom asks Jay to elaborate on how he’s been able to help people within his organization become more comfortable with having short and direct messages to send out about Affiliated Monitors. “My message – and our message internally to our folks – is that they are just so well versed and so talented, there’s nothing to be afraid of,” Jay says. He adds that they are removing barriers of entry and letting employees know that no matter what level of staff they’re at, they have a story to tell. “Personalize your experience at AMI, and that enthusiasm will come through to the people who want to watch.”

The Beauty of Evergreen

Jay talks about previous podcast series he’s had with Tom and explains that AMI was able to evolve its thinking around podcasts because the previous series was evergreen. The beauty of evergreen podcast content is that you’re able to repurpose it, repackage it, and use it in your target marketing. “It exists on the AMI website, and it’s still valuable content as well as an incredibly cost-effective tool for you because if you want to slice and dice something you did a couple of years ago in a different way, for a different reason, today, it doesn’t cost you anything but your time,” Tom adds.

Podcasts As a Channel Tool

A podcast you make lives somewhere, such as your website or Apple Podcast. Your podcast connects you digitally to people you’ve never met in person and that’s a powerful networking tool. You’re connecting companies and services.

The ESG Report

The Uses of an ESG Culture Assessment with Jay Rosen

Tom Fox is chatting with Jay Rosen in this week’s ESG Report. They discuss the critical factors involved in aligning your company culture with your ESG strategy.

What is Culture?
ESG considerations have been taking center stage and are now critical for sustainable success. However, a key area organizations may overlook when planning their ESG strategy is culture, which refers to the way things get done within an organization, comprising norms, beliefs, and behaviors that determine how people show up at work.

How to Shift Company Culture
“Getting culture right is essential for any successful transformation,” Jay says. Investing heavily in ESG-friendly structures, workforce strategies, and governance models only do so much, but the real change lies in educating the company around the goals of ESG, aligning hearts and minds.
Jay points out that few people are prepared to alter their attitudes and beliefs simply because senior management tells them they should. Leaders are therefore required to give people a say in culture change and make it clear to everyone in the organization why the change matters, and how it allows them to meet consumer and societal needs better.

What Makes Up the Right ESG Culture?
If a company says they’re all about ESG, then they need to show it. Internal company policies, processes, and cultures must align with their external communications. Correct behaviors can include things as little as carrying a reusable water bottle, using public transport, or avoiding unnecessary printing; these can all enhance your credibility as a leader of an ESG program. “Any sustainable change starts with a culture and mindset shift,” Jay tells Tom.

Bonus Episode – Jay Rosen on Networking

Welcome to the Great Women in Compliance Podcast, co-hosted by Lisa Fine and Mary Shirley.
Lisa and Mary are pleased to present the second bonus episode of the series.  For those new to the podcast, bonus episodes identify interviewees who are not Great Women in Compliance but have expertise to share that will benefit the advancement and empowerment of Great Women in Compliance.  Jay Rosen is a friend of the podcast and has been an ally for #GWIC from the very beginning.  The GWIC team extends their sincere gratitude to Jay for his support and friendship over the years.
There is no one better known for their networking skills than Jay, also known as Mr. Monitor due to his day job at Affiliated Monitors.  While many folks fell into Compliance, Jay’s start in Hollywood is amongst the least conventional pre-cursor careers.  We get to hear his story leading him to Compliance before diving into the substantive topic of how to network like a pro – even if you’re shy and introverted with no existing contacts.
Jay shares his best tips with us – addressing those in Compliance departments and those at vendors or other sales roles doing the important job of supplying tools, resources and services to Compliance practitioners to help them function at their best.
The conversation with Jay ends poignantly with Jay recounting the best advice that he ever received from his mother – a supporter of Great Women in Compliance as she purchased Jay a copy of “Sending the Elevator Back Down: What We’ve Learned from Great Women in Compliance”  (CCI Press, 2020) for Jay for Hannukah – that remains of more relevance than ever before.
Mary wraps up the episode with a short story based on her mother’s reframing of a situation that changed how Mary thinks about situations and lessens negative self-talk.
The Great Women in Compliance Podcast is proudly featured on the Compliance Podcast Network and sponsored by Corporate Compliance Insights.  If you enjoyed this episode please subscribe to the podcast and rate it on your podcast player to help other compliance professionals find it.
You can subscribe to the Great Women in Compliance podcast on any podcast player by searching for it and we welcome new subscribers to our podcast.
